A STORY ROOTED IN MARDA LOOP

What's in a name? When it comes to Marda, quite a lot.

Marda takes its name from the historic Marda Theatre, which opened in 1952 directly across the street from where the community stands today. The connection goes beyond the name. Marda's iconic sign was inspired by the theatre's original marquee, paying tribute to one of Calgary's most recognizable landmarks.

​

The story comes full circle. In 1964, the Marda Theatre was purchased by J.B. Barron, who also owned Calgary's Uptown Theatre. Today, Strategic Group is transforming the historic Barron Building, home of the former Uptown Theatre, into premium residential homes, continuing a legacy that connects two of Calgary's most beloved destinations.
